HOSPITAL INFORMATION:North Shore Hospital is a metropolitan Auckland hospital providing tertiary colorectal services for a population of over 510,000 people. We take tertiary referrals for recurrent pelvic/rectal cancer from outside our catchment. We have four colorectal surgeons, one fellow, two advanced trainees, two basic trainees and four interns. Fellows cover general acute call at consultant level with senior consultant backup. Funding is via a grant and public funding. North Shore Hospital promotes laparoscopic surgery, has regular cancer multidisciplinary meetings, and a large volume of IBD cases. There is a dedicated TPN team, access to pelvic floor manometry (off site) and endoanal uss. Endoscopic training is excellent, with all acute colonic stenting provided by us. It is the site for the NZ colorectal cancer screening pilot. North Shore Hospital has strong colorectal research, in particular in the area of ERAS, led by one of our colorectal surgeons who is an internationally recognised leader in this field.
